Low Carbon Infrastructure

Code for sustainable homes
The Code for Sustainable Homes is the national standard for the sustainable design and construction of new homes. The Code aims to reduce our carbon emissions and create homes that are more environmentally sustainable.
The Code measures the sustainability of a new home against categories of sustainable design, rating the 'whole home' as a complete package. It uses a 1 to 6 star rating system to communicate the overall sustainability performance of a new home, and sets minimum standards for energy and water use at each level, with 1 being the lowest standard and 6 being the highest.

Cambridgeshire Renewables Infrastructure Framework (CRIF)
The Cambridgeshire Renewables Infrastructure Framework (CRIF) examined the potential for renewable energy generation in Cambridgeshire. It will mapped where energy is used in the county and where it could be generated using renewables such as solar panels, wind turbines, and biomass combined heat and power plants. This information would then be used to plan and deliver investment in renewable energy, providing the pathway to a future of low carbon energy that involves communities, energy companies and the public sector.
Cost Benefit Analysis of delivering new public buildings in advance of zero carbon standards
Approximately 600,000m2 of new public building are due to be built over the next 10 to 15 years. We have commissioned a Cost Benefit Analysis to see if they would be better to be built at zero carbon in the first instance or retrofitted to zero carbon after being built. You can find out more here.
Transport
Sustainable transport (or green transport) refers to any means of transport with low impact on the environment, and includes walking ,cycling, green vehicles, car sharing, and building or protecting urban transport systems that are fuel-efficient, space-saving and promote healthy lifestyles.
Cambridgeshire strives to make green transport available to all. For example by supporting the:
