Consultation: Potential gypsy and traveller sites in Huntingdonshire

Huntingdonshire District Council are seeking views on potential locations for new gypsy and traveller sites in a public consultation which runs from 28 May to 30 July 2010 (please note that 30th July is an extended end date due to public demand).  The sites are either on public land, within major development areas, or have been put forward by private landowners and are identified in the third part of the Council's Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA).

The SHLAA identifies and assesses potentially suitable sites for all types of housing and enables the us to demonstrate to the government that there is an adequate supply of housing land to meet the needs of all sections of the community. Previous parts of the SHLAA looked at land for housing sold on the open market and housing that provides low cost homes in a village specifically for existing or former local residents who wish to return and who are in housing need, and were the subject of public consultation earlier this year.

We will use the information included in the SHLAA and the comments from this consultation to inform a future planning document which will formally allocate enough sites to meet the requirements of the East of England Regional Plan. This states that the Council should provide for 46 additional permanent pitches by 2021 plus around 10 transit pitches.

Consultation on the SHLAA Update for Gypsy and Traveller Sites is available on Huntingdonshire District Council's website. A copy of the document will be available to view at Libraries and access points across the district and at our customer service centres in Huntingdon, St Ives and St Neots.

For more information please telephone 01480 388382 or email Huntingdonshire District Council. ldf@huntsdc.gov.uk

Public Consultation - Cycling in Perry (Huntgindsonshire)

For many years, Grafham Water has benefited from a circular cycling route around its shore and this is a popular cycling and walking route for leisure purposes throughout the year, especially during summer months. At busy weekends, there can be between 2,000 and 3,000 cyclists and pedestrians using this facility. The route has always suffered from a 'missing link' through Perry itself, where you have to deviate away from the shore of Grafham Water. This results in cyclists and walkers having to use the B661 through the village, which in itself is inappropriate due to conflict with other highway traffic and its unsuitability for this level of use.

Proposals have been drawn up to try and overcome this issue. Click here for more information and details of each proposal.

Huntingdonshire District Council would like you to let them know what you think about the proposed cycleway through Perry. There is a questionnaire which you can complete here. In addition you can write with your comments:

  • by email:  projects@huntsdc.gov.uk
  • by writing to - Perry Cycleway Consultation, Environmental Management Division, Huntingdonshire District Council, Pathfinder House, St Mary's Street, Huntingdon PE29 3TN

The deadline for responses is 25 June 2010.

If you would like further information or to discuss any element of these proposals, please contact Huntingdonshire District Council direct on 01480 388388.
