Growth Explained

Growth Explained

There are a variety of reasons why housing growth is needed in Cambridgeshire, the most important is that currently not everyone has the opportunity to buy or rent a decent home, at a price they can afford, in an area that they want to live and work.

The population of Cambridgeshire is both growing and ageing, which means that there are more people than ever before seeking a place to live. Household sizes are also becoming smaller (as more people live singly rather than in big family units), which means that more homes are needed to house the same number of people.

Therefore, a well-planned, sustainable approach to growth is needed to ensure Cambridgeshire continues to flourish for years to come. By working in partnership with local authorities, developers, and relevant agencies, we can create sustainable new communities that people enjoy living and working in.

Added benefits

Alongside new houses, both existing and new residents will benefit from new and enhanced facilities and services, such as schools, health centres, community and leisure facilities, improved transport options, and easier access to green open spaces.

The Cambridgeshire Guided Busway has been built as a result of the growth agenda to provide local residents with a new, high quality public transport solution from St Ives to Cambridge, via local towns and villages.

Variety

New developments need a variety of house types so that a wide range of people can have access to a suitable home. We are aiming for high levels of affordable housing in new developments in Cambridgeshire, including social rented and shared equity homes, to sit alongside market level housing to create balanced and mixed communities.
