Discover Cambridgeshire

Home to some of the brightest minds and most innovative businesses in the world, Cambridgeshire is a dynamic area with a thriving economy and an international reputation. It has fast become one of the most attractive places to live and work in the UK.

Cambridgeshire is located in the East of England, and borders Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, and Hertfordshire. For many years the County has attracted new residents from across the country who have moved here for education, work, or simply to enjoy the peaceful Fenland countryside.

The County is well known across the globe for its universities, architecture, agriculture, cathedrals and hi-tech and biotech industries - otherwise known as the Silicon Fen or Cambridge Cluster. In 2004, 24% of venture investment in the UK and 9% in Europe was received by Silicon Fen companies, according to the Cambridge Cluster Report 2004 produced by Library House and Grant Thornton.

Success and popularity have brought their own challenges. With the number of people choosing to live and work in the County increasing steadily, demand for housing has escalated, pushing house prices way out of line with salaries. Fewer of us are now able to get a foothold on the property ladder. For example, in the City of Cambridge the average cost of a house is 9 times the average salary.
